England’s Forests Under Threat

By now most of you will have heard of the Government’s plans to reduce public ownership of England’s forests. Our favourite local mountain biking destination, Hamsterley Forest, is under serious threat of being leased or sold to the highest bidder. The Government says it will protect existing access but this is not good enough. Only walkers have legal access rights; mountain bikers and horse riders have only permissive access. There is no commitment in the Government’s proposals to expand and develop public leisure access to the forests. Please join the campaign to make the Government think again. You can sign a petition, or contact your MP.
