Tandem triumphant!

As promised we trundled down to Lanchester on the Green Machine for the new Audax event on March 30th.  "How many of these have you done?" asked the organiser. "None!" we replied, cheerfully.   He looked a bit shocked.  Suffice to say it was about as hard a ride as either of us has ever done.  Not so much the distance or the amount of climbing (over 2000m in the end), as the relentless headwind with which we battled all the way to the Cumbrian border above Nenthead.  Of course we were outside the time limits for nearly all the checkpoints but so were a lot of solo riders.  The good news is that we made it all the way round and never had to push, even up the dreaded Crawleyside Bank.  Total distance 105km.  Here we are triumphant re-crossing the border at Nenthead….
